God Hates All Sin
Adventure 3: The Goodness of God
Does God look the other way when we sin?
No. God hates all sin because He is all good. Romans 1:18 – For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.
This Truth Makes
If we did not believe that God hates sin, we might get comfortable with sin ourselves. But since God judges all sin, that ought to motivate us to hate sin like He does, and to warn others that a day of judgment will come for all of us.
Sometimes it is hard to think about God hating anything, but He does. God hates sin. Zechariah 8:17 – “Let none of you think evil in your heart against your neighbor; And do not love a false oath. For all these are things that I hate,’ Says the LORD.”
God the Father says to God the Son: Hebrews 1:9 – “You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.”
If God loves all that is right and good, and all that conforms to His moral character, then it should not be surprising that He would hate everything that is against His moral character.
Why does God hate sin so much? Because sin is the opposite of everything for which He stands. God stands for perfection,
goodness, justice, righteousness, and peace. Because He loves those things, He hates the opposite of those things. The opposite of those things is sin.
God hates sin because sin robs Him of His rightful glory. God hates sin because of the damaging effects on His beloved Creation. God hates sin because He is all good. If God did not hate sin intensely and passionately, then He would cease to be a truly good God.
