God Has Always Been a Trinity
Adventure 4: The Trinity
Has God always been a Trinity?
God has always been a Trinity, and He always will be, because He never changes. Isaiah 48:16 – "Come near to Me [Jesus], hear this: I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; From the time that it was, I was there. And now the Lord GOD and His Spirit Have sent Me."
This Truth Makes
If we did not believe that God has always existed as a Trinity, then we might fall for the lie that one of the Members of the Trinity was created or has changed over time. Could any created creature – no matter how great – really save us?
All three Persons are equally and fully God, and God is eternal and uncreated. So that means that God must exist as a Trinity eternally, too. If our sin is against the God who created us, how could another created being pay the debt we owe to God? John 17:24 – “Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before
the foundation of the world.”
Within the Trinity, there is great love. In fact, it is the most beautiful and powerful love ever. The Father loves the Son. The Son loves the Father. The Holy Spirit is characterized by love. The love among the three Persons of the Trinity is the basis and model for our love for one another. John 17:26 – “And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
Because the three Members of the Trinity have always had each other, we can be confident that God created us to share in that love and joy – not to be a source of it. God did not create us because He was lonely! Acts 17:25 – Nor is He [God] worshiped with men’s hands, as though He needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all things.
