God Commands Us To Live a Certain Way for His Glory
Adventure 6: God's View of You
What did God create you to do?
God created me to glorify Him and enjoy Him forever! Psalm 86:11-12 – Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; unite my heart to fear Your name. I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart, and I will glorify Your name forevermore.
This Truth Makes
All of us want happiness and satisfaction – God designed us that way! Inside every human being, God has put the desire to find happiness and satisfaction. He has also provided a way for us to be truly happy – by loving Him with our whole hearts! The times when we will be happiest are those times when we are doing the thing that God created us to do: glorifying Him.
Someone might wonder: “If I am made in the image of God, and cannot lose that, then why isn’t it enough just to live any way I want to?” It is true that no matter how one lives, the fact that he is created in God’s image does not change. However, the more sinful a person’s life is, the more distorted
becomes the image of God in that person. There is no lasting happiness when our lives present a distorted view of God. He makes sure of that! In order to find true happiness, we need to live for the purpose for which God created us.
God has given us rules by which to live. These rules are for our benefit and for His glory. The rules and laws that God has given are based on His character and excellence.
When we live according to God’s laws, our obedience tells an accurate (true, correct) story of what God is like. God is pleased and receives glory when we reflect His character by the way we live. By God’s grace, we should think, act, and speak like God, in order to bring glory to Him.
As Christians, it is important that we give others the right opinion of Who our God really is. That means we should look right and act rightly, but, most importantly, BE right! The only way we can BE right is if we know the Lord Jesus and have His Spirit living within us!
In order to give a clear reflection of God’s image, we need God Himself to come and live inside of us in a special way. We need His Spirit to cleanse us of our sins and teach us how to live.
