The Last Six: Our Relationship with Others
Adventure 7: God's Law
What do the last six commandments teach you?
The last six commandments teach me what it means to love and serve my neighbor unreservedly. Matthew 7:12 – "Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets."
This Truth Makes
God is concerned with how we treat other people. One reason for His concern is that all human life is created in God’s image.
The way we treat others indicates how we truly feel about God.
1 John 4:20 – If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother [in Christ], he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?
Just because the last six commandments are primarily about our relationship with other people, that does not mean that our relationship with God is not affected. In fact, no matter how we might sin against another human being – ultimately we sin against God. Even David, after breaking several of God’s commandments (particularly #6 and #7) said: “Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest” (Psalm 51:4).
