God’s Law Shows Us Our Need for Christ
Adventure 7: God's Law
Why did God give the Ten Commandments?
In love, God gave the Ten Commandments to show all of us that we are sinners who desperately need Jesus Christ's righteousness and forgiveness. Galatians 3:24 – Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
This Truth Makes
God’s Law shows His standard – and His standard is perfection. God can take no pleasure in anything that does not fully measure up to His moral Law. Thankfully, when we come face-to-face with God’s standard, it points us to our need for Christ.
Someday, you will learn to drive a car! That will be exciting. But before you can get your license, you will need an instructor.
This driving instructor will teach you the rules of the road and show you how to drive without hurting yourself or others. He will show you what it means to drive legally. Finally, one day you will get your license, and you will not need your instructor
anymore – yippee!
But you will still obey all the rules he taught you, right? Just because your instructor is not sitting with you all the time does not mean you are free to do anything you want with your car. You must still obey the rules of the road. Just because you have a driver’s license does not mean you can do anything you want!
The Law of God instructs you like that driving instructor. The instructor shows you that you need a license, and he shows you what you must do in order to receive a license. The Law shows you that you have a great need for forgiveness, and it points you to Jesus Christ – the only One Who can provide forgiveness.
