Jesus Christ Is the Mediator of the New Covenant
Adventure 8: Jesus Christ
Who is the only Mediator between God and sinners, the only One able to bring us close to God?
Jesus Christ is the only Mediator between God and sinners. He alone is able to bring us close to God. 1 Timothy 2:5-6 – For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, Who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
This Truth Makes
When Jesus came to Earth, it signified that God was establishing a New Covenant with people. Until that time, God had dealt with people primarily through the Old Covenant, which is found in Exodus 19:5. It is based upon man’s complete obedience to God’s Law.
A “covenant” is similar to a promise, but it is even more serious than that. A covenant is an agreement that is completely
binding. There is no way to get out of a covenant. It is an agreement beyond all agreements! It is a super-promise that establishes a relationship between two parties. A covenant relationship, once established, never changes.
When we think of covenants that God has made with man, two should come to mind. The Old Covenant (based on man’s perfect obedience to God’s Law) came through Moses, and the New Covenant (based on Christ’s perfect obedience to God’s Law) came through Jesus Christ.
Sometimes these covenants are referred to as covenants of Law and Grace. When God established the Old Covenant (Law) with His people, it came with the promise of blessing, if the people perfectly obeyed the Law, or cursing, if the people failed. The people failed.
Romans 4:16 – Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.
