Salvation Is a Free and Precious Gift from God
Adventure 9: God's Gift -- Salvation
Mission: 1

Question Answer
What is "salvation"?

Salvation is the everlasting life and forgiveness that God gives freely to sinners who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ by grace through faith to save them. Saved sinners are declared righteous by God and adopted into His family. They are steadily changing to become more like their Savior and steadfastly hoping for the future when they will be resurrected to live with Him in glory forever. Jonah 2:9b – Salvation is of the LORD.

The Difference This Truth Makes
Salvation is the best thing that could possibly happen to anyone, and it is a free gift of God. Ever since the cross, Satan has tried to deceive people into thinking that there is some work they must do in order to gain salvation. But salvation is not something that is earned, it is something that is freely given by God. Titus 3:5 – Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.

Christ invites people to come and freely trust Him for salvation. This is the call of the Gospel. (See Matthew 11:28-30.) God calls us to turn from sin and to turn to Christ. When people do respond to God’s call, it is a work of God. It is important to understand that salvation is completely and totally a work of God, and man is the recipient of this work. There is no good work that we could do in order to “earn” salvation. When God calls us to receive salvation, by His grace we can embrace His awesome gift of salvation.

John 6:37 – All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.
