God Commands Us All To Repent and Believe in Christ
Adventure 9: God's Gift -- Salvation
What must you do to be saved?
To be saved, I must (by grace, through faith) repent from my sins and believe that only Christ can make me holy and whole. Mark 1:15b – "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel."
This Truth Makes
God has placed upon all men the personal responsibility to repent (turn from sin) and have faith in Him (turn to Christ). When men repent, it is called “conversion.” God holds everyone accountable to be converted (Acts 3:19).
The word “conversion” primarily means a turning. We turn from sin to Christ. The turning from sin is called repentance, and the turning to Christ is called faith.
It is important to keep in mind that, although conversion is a responsibility required by God, conversion is first and foremost
a work of God. God must call a sinner and bring Him to the point of conversion. We could say it this way: “Conversion is man’s responsibility, but it is God’s work.”
Conversion is a single action of turning from sin and turning to Christ in faith. In other words, it does not happen over and over again. Although we will continue to grow in faith and need to repent of specific sins during our lifetime on Earth, God requires the initial faith and repentance that is conversion.
