God Wants You To Do Good Works
Adventure 10: God's Purpose for His Children
What does it mean to 'do good works'?
To do good works means to live for God's glory by loving, obeying, and by doing things that only God's children could do with God's help. Colossians 1:10-11 – That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy.
This Truth Makes
Good works definitely include being holy and loving. But there are also some specific commands you can obey to please God. Good works call for ACTION!
For example, one good work that you can do right after you become a Christian is to be water-baptized like Christ was. Baptism shows publicly that you want your life to identify with Christ.
Another good work that God commands Christians to do is to remember Christ’s sacrifice at Calvary. This practice is called “the Lord’s Supper.” The food and drink used in this event are symbolic of Christ’s body and His blood – to help us remember the price He paid to purchase us from sin.
There are many other good works besides these! John said that Jesus’ good works were too many to record! John 21:25 – And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.
