I Am Changed To Be Like Christ as I Know Him More
Adventure 10: God's Purpose for His Children
Mission: 8

Question Answer
How does God change and sanctify His children to make them more holy and more like Christ?

God's Holy Spirit and His Word work together to change and sanctify His children from the inside out by showing and teaching them more of Christ. God gives His children faith and wisdom to become like His Son. 2 Peter 1:3 – As His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.

The Difference This Truth Makes
God puts an incredibly high priority on our knowing Him. Knowing God involves intellectual knowledge – like facts about Him – but it involves so much more than that! Knowing God means working to have a personal, firsthand “heart knowledge” of Him. It is not enough just to learn facts about God; you must also have a personal relationship with Him.

It is through this personal relationship with Himself that God transforms us into Christ’s image. God calls us to renew our minds – that central part of us which affects everything else we say, feel, think, and do (Romans 12:1-2). “Renewing” has the idea of a complete renovation. (Like gutting and rebuilding a house from the inside out!) At one time, your mind once thought as sinful minds think. But now, God is working to purify your mind – and He also commands YOU to purify your mind. Romans 7:25 – I thank God --through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.

Many Christians are living defeated, disobedient lives because they have never understood that God calls them to fight sin by renewing the mind – and that the fighting is hard work. Renewing the mind means reading, studying, memorizing, and thinking about the Bible. It means taking wrong thoughts captive and focusing on right thoughts. Renewing the mind is part of sanctification, and it is a responsibility, not just an option. When we renew our minds, God blesses us by continuing to sanctify us and by showing us Christ.
