The Goal of Our Sanctification Is Christ
Adventure 10: God's Purpose for His Children
What should be a Christian's joyful goal in sanctification?
A Christian's joyful goal in sanctification should be to understand and know the LORD. Jeremiah 9:23-24 – Thus says the LORD: 'Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not the mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth. For in these I delight,' says the LORD.
This Truth Makes
All of our goals are wrapped up in Christ! One goal is to be like Him. One goal is to know Him. One goal is to enjoy Him. One goal is to love Him. That is why we say the goal of our sanctification is Christ. Someday, we will reach our Goal and live with Him forever in perfect joy and love.
Some people might think following Christ is boring and unhappy. People who think like this are not ready for heaven! If someone is not happy in Christ, then he is believing wrongly about Him. Christ is happiness! Christ is joy! Christ is everything! If you have Him, you have something better than all the riches of the whole world. (See also Matthew 13:44.)
Christ is the Goal of our sanctification and our supreme Example to follow. The Christian’s expectation (hope and confidence)
is to see Him someday and be changed (as much as possible) to be like Him. All of us will strive to be holy and Christlike in this lifetime, but on the day when we see Christ face to face, we will all be changed fully into His image – we will be perfect like He is!
1 John 3:3 – And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.
Even the hope of being completely changed, of seeing Christ and having our bodies changed to be like Him, is powerful
enough to motivate us to be pure.
