We Rely on the Bible and the Spirit for Sanctification
Adventure 10: God's Purpose for His Children
What should be your attitude toward God's Word and the Holy Spirit?
I should set my heart to trust and obey God's Word and the Holy Spirit. I should love learning the Truth that can make me whole, free, and better fit to serve God! 2 Timothy 3:17 – That the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
This Truth Makes
Without salvation, a sinner naturally goes deeper and deeper into his sinfulness. But God will change a sinner who trusts Christ. God helps believers grow more and more into Christ’s righteousness. An unbeliever gives in to temptations, going further and further into his sin. But a true believer will yield (give up) himself more and more to righteousness instead.
Throughout this Adventure, we have studied how it takes both God and man to accomplish sanctification. We have seen that God provides two main helps to sanctify us: the Word and the Holy Spirit.
So how should the Christian respond to God’s helps? He should submit to the Holy Spirit and have faith in God’s Word. When he responds to God in faith and obedience like that, he will be sanctified. God promises this to us, and God never breaks His promises!
