God Provided the Family To Help Us Live for His Glory
Adventure 11: God's Work -- Past and Present
What is "the family"?
The family is the people with whom God wants you to live. His design for most families is a husband, a wife, and any children God may give them. Adam and Eve and their children were the first family put together by God. Ephesians 5:31 – For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.
This Truth Makes
As part of His perfect will, God designed the family to reflect the love that exists among the three Persons of the Trinity. The husband’s love for his wife is a living, visible picture of Christ’s love for the Church. (Ephesians 5:25) God wants there to be such great unity between the husband and wife that the two become one. This does not mean “one” as in “one person,” but it does mean “one” in purpose and mind. 2 Corinthians 6:14 – Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?
In God’s eyes, no one person in a family is greater than another. Every member of the family, however, is designed to fulfill a unique role. Husbands are to submit their lives to the Lord completely, and they are to love and lead their families. Wives are to respect and submit to their husbands. The children are to respect and obey both parents. All members of the family must place themselves under authority in one way or another. Even the husband – who is the highest visible authority in the family unit – must submit himself to God, Who is the ultimate Authority.
