To Be Saved, We Need God’s Word
Case 1: God's Word - The Bible
Can we really get to know God without His Word?
No. God wants us to know Him by faith in the truth of His Word. Romans 10:17 – So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
This Truth Makes
When the Bible says that faith comes by hearing, it does not mean that every person who hears God’s Word will be saved. Some people reject all of God’s Word. Some people reject only parts of God’s Word. A true believer has faith in all of God’s Word. A true believer says: “I will adjust my beliefs according to what the Bible teaches.” Some people try to adjust what the Bible teaches to their own beliefs. That is dangerous!
Salvation comes when the message of the Gospel is preached, heard, and believed. That Gospel message must come from the Word of God. It is the only message that is powerful enough to give faith. It is the only message that is God’s own words.
Big Christian Word: Light. Christians often use the word light to refer to the amount of truth or revelation a person is given by God. In the same way a light bulb light s up a room, God lights up a person's heart and mind by revealing Himself and His truth. Isaiah 8:20 - To the Law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
