God Hates All Sin
Case 3: The Goodness of God
Does God look the other way when we sin?
No. God hates all sin because He is all good. Romans 1:18 – For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness.
This Truth Makes
God cannot really love good without hating evil. He must hate evil and love good. If God loved good, but failed to hate evil, He would not be truly good. If God hated evil, but failed to love what is good, He would not be truly good then, either. The Bible uses the word “wrath” to describe God’s anger against sin.
In Romans 1:18, the Bible says that ungodly men “suppress,” or hold, the truth in unrighteousness. This means that they push the truth out and away from their own consciences. The truth of God is everywhere – in Creation, in our own consciences (our sense of right and wrong), and especially in the Bible. Unrighteous men push the truth away so that they can continue (they think) to live the sinful lifestyles they desire. Holding back the truth is like trying to hold down a rubber duck under the water. You cannot do it forever!
