God’s Goodness Leads Us To Trust and Love Him
Case 3: The Goodness of God
How can you please God, Who is perfectly good?
By grace, through faith, I can trust God, obey His Word, and love Him more than I love anything or anyone else. Deuteronomy 13:3b-4 – The LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall walk after the LORD your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him.
This Truth Makes
Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 6:5 (hundreds of years after it was written) to teach the “bottom line” (the main point) of all the Law. It was the bottom line for the Jews in the Old Testament, and it is the bottom line for Christians today: Love God.
Why should we love God? Just because He commands it? Well, that is reason enough, but God also goes to great lengths to show what a good God He is. If God were only powerful and not loving, we would only fear Him. Since God is both good and great, we can love, trust, and respect Him.
