There Is Only One True God
Case 4: Trinity
Does the Bible teach that there is only one true God?
The Bible teaches that the LORD God is the one and only true God. Deuteronomy 6:4 – Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!
This Truth Makes
Deuteronomy 6:4 and the verses that follow are an important passage of the Bible, known as “the Shema” (SHEE-mah). The Shema is a simple statement of beliefs and commandments for the Jewish nation. The Hebrew word shema means “hear,” which is the very first word of this passage.
Devout Jews today still carry four Old Testament passages with them wherever they go, and the Shema is one of those passages. Deuteronomy 6:4 is affirmed (agreed with, verified, echoed) in many places, both in the Old and New Testaments. The clearest of these affirmations is found in 1 Corinthians 8:5-6 – For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as there are many gods and many lords), yet for us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for Him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and through whom we live.
