Last Six Commandments: How To Relate to People
Case 7: God's Law
What do the last six commandment teach you?
The last six commandments teach me what it means to love and serve my neighbor unreservedly. Matthew 7:12 – "Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets."
This Truth Makes
Have you ever heard the common proverb “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”? Did you know that saying
is based on Jesus’ words in Matthew 7:12? Its nickname is the “Golden Rule.” Jesus said that if we obey this principle (“whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them”), we will be fulfilling all the Law. We learned in Clue #1 that Jesus also said (in Matthew 22) that loving God and loving others wholeheartedly was the sum of all the Law. That means doing unto others what we would have them do unto us is the same thing as acting out genuine love for God and others. We can only love others genuinely if we genuinely love God. If we obey the “Golden Rule,” we automatically will be meeting the demands of Matthew 22 and the whole Law.
