Jesus Christ Is in Heaven, But His Spirit Is with Us
Case 8: Jesus Christ
What is Jesus Christ doing right now?
Jesus is at His Father's right hand, preparing a place for His people and praying for them, confirming His truth through the Spirit and orchestrating all things. Luke 22:69 – "Hereafter the Son of Man will sit on the right hand of the power of God."
This Truth Makes
Luke 22:69 is speaking about the time when Jesus was captured by the Sanhedrin. “Sanhedrin” was the name of the Jewish
religious group who paid Judas Iscariot to betray Jesus Christ. They captured Jesus at night and held a secret, illegal trial in order to declare He was “guilty” and call for His death.
When Jesus told them that they would see the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God, the Sanhedrin
immediately knew that Jesus was claiming to be God Himself! Why?
To sit on the right hand of God meant to hold the position of highest honor and privilege. This would be a place reserved only for Someone worthy to sit alongside God. The Jews understood that God’s Son is coequal with God Himself.
Jesus was referring to Daniel 7:13-14, a passage of Scripture that prophesies clearly that the One Who sits on the right hand of God is the Son of God. The Sanhedrin would have recognized this passage from the book of Daniel.
In the Jews’ system, someone who pretended to be God was punishable by death. The Jews had to turn Jesus over to the Roman authorities because the Jews were under Roman rule at that time. They could not put their own prisoners to death. The Sanhedrin took Jesus to the Romans and put pressure on Pilate (the Roman ruler) to judge and execute Jesus.
