The Gospel Is the Story of Christ
Case 9: God's Gift - Salvation
What is "the Gospel"?
The Gospel is the good news that Jesus Christ became a Man, lived a sinless life, died as a criminal, was buried in a tomb, and came to life again so that sinners could have a Way to God. 1 Corinthians 15:3b-4 – That Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.
This Truth Makes
The word “gospel” literally means “good news.” The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the best news ever because God provided it to give new life to spiritually dead people, and to give the light of truth to those who are in spiritual darkness. (See Ephesians 2:1 and 2 Corinthians 4:4.)
Sin caused us to be born spiritually dead. We needed life! We needed to be born again. God gives us new life. This new birth is a supernatural event. It is not something that could be accomplished by human effort. (See John 3:6.)
The Gospel of Christ is that He came to Earth and lived here without sin, He shed His blood and died for our sins, He was buried (which proves He really died), and He rose from the dead. He proved He was more powerful than sin and sin’s penalty.
