God’s Children Should Live Loving Lives
Case 10: God's Purpose for His Children
What does it mean to 'love God and others'?
To love God and others means to treat them with genuine care, humility, and loyal kindness. Philippians 2:3 –
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.
This Truth Makes
The opposite of love is selfishness. True love gives selflessly to God and others. Jesus Christ is the ultimate Example of love. He spent His life on Earth selflessly serving His Father and helping others. He gave His life on the cross, proving His love for us. John 15:13 – Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
God wants us to have Jesus’ attitude! In humility, we should value others’ lives more than we care about our own lives. We should do nothing out of selfish hopes for personal profit. Selfless love should work itself out in the way we spend our time and money. Whatever we do should be an act of love, from start to finish, or else it will not have lasting value.
1 Corinthians 13:3 – And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.
