God Chose the Israelites To Bring Him Glory
Case 11: God's Work - Past and Present
What was the main way God made known His grace and glory during Old Testament times?
In Old Testament times, God made known His grace and glory by leading and taking special care of His chosen people, the Jews. Jeremiah 13:11b – "I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me," says the LORD, "that they may become My people, for renown, for praise, and for glory."
This Truth Makes
Since God is an invisible Spirit, He has chosen to demonstrate His character through human beings. In the Old Testament,
He chose a special group called the “Israelites” (or Jews).
In God’s eyes, Israel was above all the other nations upon the Earth. The Israelits were God’s special, chosen people – and He desired to see His awesome character displayed in and through them.
Deuteronomy 14:2 – For you are a holy people to the LORD your God, and the LORD has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
But Israel did not perfectly obey God. The Bible says they rejected Him, disobeyed Him, and provoked Him to anger. God was continually gracious to them (and still is to this day); but as a nation they failed to meet their responsibilities before God. So today, God has chosen to include individuals from the Jewish nation and many other nations to be His special people and to display His glory. God is calling out people from every tribe and every nation to believe in Christ and to become part of the Church.
