God’s Plans for His Church Today
Case 11: God's Work - Past and Present
What is the main way God has been making known His grace and glory during New Testament times and up until now?
In New Testament times and up until now, God has been making known His grace and glory by leading and taking special care of His redeemed people. All God's redeemed people are called 'the Church,' and they meet together in smaller groups called 'local churches.' 1 Peter 2:9b – His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
This Truth Makes
In 1 Peter 2:9, the Bible clearly teaches that God’s people have been called out of the darkness of sin in order to bring praise to Him. The Bible says Christians are a chosen generation. This means that there are Christians all over the world who have the special identity of being God’s people (or God’s children). If you know Jesus Christ, then this identity is you: you are part of a chosen group meant to glorify God on Earth.
In the New Testament, the word “church” means a group of people that is “called out” or “belonging to the Lord.” The Church is not a building. The Church is God’s group of people that He has called out of the world, and they belong specially to the Lord. As the Church, we are the people of God, the Body of Christ, and the temple of the Holy Spirit.
God plan right now is to glorify Himself through the Church (His special group of called-out people). God has always known the things He would do, and He has always planned to glorify Himself by calling out people of every race and color (Hispanics, Germans, Japanese, etc.) and saving them through faith in Christ.
Christians are God’s possession. They belong to Him in a way that nobody or nothing else belongs. God’s people are very valuable to Him. He laid down His life for them. You can certainly praise God if you are His child!
