Jesus Will Return!
Case 12: God's Plan for the Future
Clue: 2

Question Answer
What is meant by the phrases 'the Second Coming' and 'the Day of the Lord'?

These are ways of talking about the time when Jesus Christ will come back and judge the world. Acts 17:31a – Because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained.

The Difference This Truth Makes
When Christians speak about the “Second Coming of Christ,” they are not talking about only one event that happens in one moment of time. It certainly begins with a moment, but there are many other events that take place during the time when Jesus comes back to resurrect and judge everyone. This time is called the “Day of the Lord.” When we talk about “Christ’s Return,” we talk about it as the beginning of a whole series of events.

The Man Whom God has ordained to judge the world is Jesus Christ (Acts 17:31). He rose from the dead and is living, glorified, with the Father. Since Jesus has beaten sin and death, He is the only One worthy to judge the world.

The Bible says God will judge the world in righteousness. God judges according to that which is right, and His judgments are always right. If we are found righteous (in Christ) on that day, we will be accepted by God. But if we are found wicked (out of Christ), we will be punished forever.

Remember, we cannot be found righteous without Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the only Man Who always did right. When you trust in Him, His righteousness is put on your account.
