Jesus Will Judge the Whole World
Case 12: God's Plan for the Future
What will happen when the Lord Jesus Christ returns to Earth?
When the Lord Jesus Christ returns to Earth, He will judge everyone, both the living and the dead. 2 Timothy 4:1 – I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom.
This Truth Makes
When Christ returns, He will judge all people from every nation and every time. Christ’s act of judging will take two forms. He will reward believers according to their good works in Christ; or He will punish unbelievers according to their failure to obey God’s Law perfectly.
It is important to realize that even though all people will stand before Christ, there are two separate events of judging. When Christ judges believers, it is called the “Judgment Seat of Christ.” When Christ judges unbelievers, He does so at the “Great White Throne Judgment.” In the next two clues, you will learn the differences between these two judgments.
Some people try to figure out exactly when these judgments will occur. But the time of the judgments is not as important as the reality (the truth) of the judgments. This fact will not change: Jesus is coming again to judge everyone – past, present, and future.
The Lord Jesus is the King of a kingdom. Right now, His kingdom is very real, but it is invisible to us. When Christ returns, Jesus’ kingdom will be both real and visible. Jesus is the sovereign King, even though His enemies deny it right now. At His return, Jesus will reign over all His enemies. They will bow the knee and proclaim that He is Lord of lords. (Philippians 2:9-11)
