God’s Children Have a Faith that Lasts
Case 12: God's Plan for the Future
Clue: 7

Question Answer
Will true believers really be able to persevere in their faith until the end of time?

Yes. True believers really will be able to persevere in their faith until the end of time. Their faith must last because it comes from God and not from them. John 10:28 – "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand."

The Difference This Truth Makes
Eternal life is life that lasts forever. Jesus says that He gives eternal life. He did not save He might give it. He did not say He will give it sometime in the future. He gives it now. Eternal life is something all Christians possess right now! Their physical bodies will die someday, but true believers have the hope of eternal life.

Eternal life is not just about the length of life (eternity), but it is also about the quality of life. We can enjoy the right things right now. We can live our lives as Jesus Christ lived. Eternal life does not just begin when we die. Eternal life begins the moment God grants us faith to believe in Jesus Christ.

These verses (John 10:28-29) are some of the most comforting in the whole Bible for God’s children, because they teach that we are held close to God by His awesome power. Christ’s sheep stay His sheep forever – by the power of God.

Although they might have doubts from time to time, true “sheep” have a faith that lasts. Our faith is not our own invention. It is not of ourselves – it is a gift from God. The Christian lives a holy life like Christ, not out of fear of losing salvation, but out of gratitude to the Savior. Eternal life is sure and secure for true believers because God holds it for them and He keeps His Word for His glory’s sake. Our faith endures because it is a work of God; God does not quit on any good work that He begins.

Philippians 1:6 – Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
