We Should Watch and Wait for Christ’s Return
Case 12: God's Plan for the Future
How should your heart respond to learning these biblical truths about the future?
My heart should desire to be with God as soon as possible, but also to live a holy, joyful life before Him during the time He wants me here. I should wait for Jesus and hope in Him until He comes. 1 Thessalonians 5:6 – Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober.
This Truth Makes
Jesus tells us to watch. There are things we should “watch out for” and also things to “watch for.”
We should watch out for temptation, laziness, and useless living. We should watch for Christ’s return when He will change us and take us to another world.
We are not in heaven yet, so we strive to know Christ better now, through His Word and the Holy Spirit. We long to be with Jesus personally, but we can draw close to Him now only through faith. Our hearts cry out to be with Him, and yet He has chosen us to glorify Himself through living a Christlike life in this sin-cursed world.
There will be such tremendous joy in heaven that it is impossible to describe or understand. Take that which makes you happiest in this life now (which should be a right relationship with God, but let’s pretend for a second that it’s the gladness you get from eating chocolate). You could multiply that gladness by the number of all the grains of sand in the world, and you would not even come close to how happy and joyful you will be in heaven.
