There Is a Real Heaven and a Real Hell
Construction Zone 12: God's Plan for the Future
Stage: 1

Question Answer
At the moment a person's body dies, where does his soul go?

At death, a believer's soul goes into the presence of the Lord, but an unbeliever's soul goes to hell.

The Difference This Truth Makes
When a person dies, his soul goes out of his body. His body might be put in a grave for a while, but his soul goes somewhere else immediately. When the soul leaves the body, that is physical death. But that soul is eternal (forever) and will go on living. It will still be able to think and feel.

The Apostle Paul was sure that for him to be absent from his body was to be “present with the Lord” (2 Corinthians 5:8). If you know a Christian who has died, his or her body might be in the grave, but you can be sure the soul itself is with the Lord.

But the souls of unbelieving people do not go to God when they die. Instead of going to heaven, their souls go immediately to a place called hell.
