Jesus Will Judge the Lost by His Word
Construction Zone 12: God's Plan for the Future
On the day of resurrection and judgment, how will Christ judge unbelievers, those sinners who rejected Him as Lord and King?
Christ will judge unbelievers by the power of His Word. John 12:48b – "The word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day."
This Truth Makes
God judges unbelievers by whether or not they obeyed His Law perfectly. So, no one is found righteous. God will judge their works, and He will have to declare them “guilty.” Their souls and bodies will spend eternity in hell, because they failed to repent and believe in Christ. That is also why unbelievers are sometimes called “the lost.”
Believers, on the other hand, stand before God with the righteousness of Christ which is by faith. The Great White Throne Judgment is the place of final judgment against all those who die in their sins. God will judge lost unbelievers by His Word. He will measure their lives up against His Law – and He will judge them by their works. Everyone at this judgment is declared guilty and unrighteous.
Just like human judges who judge people according to written
laws, Jesus Christ will use the written Word to judge unbelievers.
Someone might say about the Law of God’s Word: “I didn’t know about that!” But God has written His Law on every person’s heart. At the Great White Throne, nobody will have a good excuse for turning down salvation in Christ.
